What is a router ?

The router is a device which forwarded the data packets along networks. The router is connected to at least two different networks and devices are critical to keep the flow of data from LAN to WAN.
When the data sent from one network to another anyway packages that will pass through the router which also shows the route packets. The router performs this work by checking the destination IP in the header of each packet and reference table where stored rutes, selects the best path to follow in packs.

Not all routers are the same since each depends on the work that is performed and distinguish the type of network the networks. You can see any device and do not understand that it is router. What defines the router is not the form, color, size or manufacturer, but it is the function of routing packets between the computers. Cable modem which rutes data between you and your suppliers may be considered internet router.
